JULIA CHAMBERS

INSTRUCTOR

Julia Laurenne Chambers is thrilled to return to Kelowna Actors Studio as a visiting teaching artist this summer!

Born and raised in Kelowna, Julia has been involved in the local arts community since her early teens. At age 16, she performed as the lead in her first production at KAS, sparking her lifelong passion for theatre. Since then, Julia has starred in a number of KAS productions, including Cabaret, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Sound of Music. In addition to KAS, she has performed in productions produced by Opera Kelowna, MadFox Theatre, and Night Owl Theatre Company, among others.

As an artist, Julia has been featured on news platforms like Global News, Kelowna Daily Courier, Kelowna Now, Castanet, Kelowna10, and Shaw TV. She has also had the opportunity to share her passion for the arts with other young artists as one of the first ambassadors of City of Kelowna’s Creative Youth Program.

For the past five years, Julia has been living in New York City, experiencing all the beauty and grit the arts capital of the world has to offer. While earning her BFA in Drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Julia received intensive musical theatre training at the New Studio on Broadway, studied method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, and completed a film & TV residency at Stonestreet Studios. In addition to pursuing acting, her love for storytelling also took her down the path of double majoring in Journalism at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, where she received an additional Bachelor’s degree with a focus in arts and culture. Since then, Julia has been auditioning and working as an actor, teaching artist, and editorial writer for Playbill Magazine.

With over five years of diverse experience working with pre-K up to college-aged actors, Julia is highly motivated and passionate about teaching students who are enthusiastic about theatre. Over the years, she has directed youth productions including Matilda The Musical JR., Mary Poppins JR., Annie JR., Disney’s Descendants: The Musical, and more. Julia has also taught focussed workshops like Broadway Bootcamp for young performers, as well as Acting through Song Intensives for more advanced actors. She is dedicated to creating a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment in her classes, and is devoted to empowering students to feel like they have a place in the arts.
