Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, the musical follows the life of Jean Valjean, a former convict who breaks his parole and attempts to start a new life. However, he is relentlessly pursued by the ruthless Inspector Javert, who is determined to bring him to justice. Along the way, Valjean encounters a cast of memorable characters, including the beautiful and tragic Fantine, her daughter Cosette, and the idealistic Marius.
